Milia and Sam80 gelato display cases now with R290 natural gas

Ifi accelerates ecological transition

In advance of the deadlines set by the European directives, the Milia and Sam80 gelato display cases also adopt R290 refrigerant gas (propane), joining the Ifi gelato range now entirely available with natural gas. A choice that promotes an efficient, sustainable gelato service, with significant advantages, also in terms of bills.

In the ecological transition process, which includes the switch to R290 natural gas, Ifi has invested heavily in research, technology, equipment, certifications, and staff training to ensure that each product meets the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance, along with the following benefits:

  • reduction of energy consumption from 10% to 20%, for savings in terms of “energy bills”;
  • reduction in the amount of gas used, to reduce global warming (greenhouse effect);
  • longer compressor life, for savings in maintenance;
  • noise reduction (Decibels), for the acoustic comfort of operators and customers.

Ecological Transition

The bar, gelato, and pastry sectors are at the center of a major ecological transition brought about by European directives regulating energy consumption and the use of fluorinated gases that are harmful to the environment.

  1. Ecodesign Directive and Energy Label: for the reduction of energy consumption
    European Directive 2009/125/EC - 2010/30/EU

    As of September 1, 2023, only refrigerated displays up to energy class F can be placed on the market in Europe. These displays must be equipped with an energy label (Energy Label), as is already the case for household appliances, with the aim of boosting user awareness of energy consumption. In response to this directive, Ifi has adopted R290 (propane) gas and implemented changes to the internal components of all products.

  2. F-gas (fluorinated gases) Directive: for the reduction of the greenhouse effect
    (Regulation EU 2024/573 on fluorinated greenhouse gases, amending EU Directive 2019/1937 and repealing Regulation (EU) No 517/2014)

    As of January 1, 2025, the placing on the market of refrigerated display cabinets with onboard motors that use fluorinated greenhouse gases, such as R452A gas, will be prohibited throughout the European Union. In response to this legislation, Ifi has adopted R290 propane gas, an enviromentally friendly and sustainable alternative, for all its products with onboard motors.
